HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER/SECTION 8 WAITING LIST

To apply for the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCV) waiting list, new applicants must now use a computer, tablet, or smart-phone with
Internet access to complete a pre-application. The HCV Online Pre-Application is now closed.
Once you are on the Waiting List, it is important to notify the Housing Authority through the Applicant Portal if your contact information
changes. If mail that has been sent to you is returned to the Housing Authority by the Post Office, your name will be removed from the Waiting
List. All notifications of address changes must be submitted through the Applicant Portal. When the change has been made and accepted, you
will receive a confirmation email stating your pre-application was updated.

The Housing Authority is unable to estimate how long you will have to wait for assistance due to the length of the Waiting List and the slow
turnover in the housing assistance program.

When your name reaches the top of the Waiting List you will be asked to submit necessary documentation to determine your eligibility for
assistance. After all paperwork is received and you are determined to be eligible, you will be asked to attend a mandatory program briefing. At
the briefing you will be issued a Housing Choice Voucher and you will be able to start your search for housing. You will be required to reside in
Merced County for one year before transferring to another Housing Authority.
